Scientific Writers


The online, educational resource www.mechanobio.info (MBInfo) is looking for scientific writers to join its dynamic team based at the Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore. Successful candidates will aid in the production and expansion of a new wiki-based resource that offers review-style information on the molecular and cellular aspects of mechanobiology. For example; MBInfo describes the underlying molecules and mechanisms involved in cell motility and mechanosensing, emphasizing the molecular motors and complexes with force-based or force-responsive mechanisms.

Responsibilities
The candidate will liaise with scientists and students at MBI to write, review and refine materials for a variety of mechanobiology-related topics for MBInfo. This post will also involve working with MBInfo’s animator and illustrator to render high quality drawings and animations of complex scientific processes to compliment the text written.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology/Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, or other relevant scientific discipline. Comprehension and experience with cellular imaging and functional analysis of in vitro systems is essential. Excellent reading comprehension and computer literacy is required, as well as superior writing and communication skills and the ability to work well with a variety of people.

Terms of Appointment
The appointment will be initially for one year with possibility for extensions of up to an additional 2-3 years.

Managing Editor of MBInfo

A managing editor position for the online, educational resource www.mechanobio.info (MBInfo) is available, based at the Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore. The successful candidate will aid in the production and expansion of a new wiki-based resource that offers review-style information on the molecular and cellular aspects of mechanobiology. For example; MBInfo describes the underlying molecules and mechanisms involved in cell motility and mechanosensing, emphasizing the molecular motors and complexes with force-based or force-responsive mechanisms.

Responsibilities
The candidate will liaise with a number of senior scientists in the MBI to collect, review and refine materials for MBInfo. The candidate will also manage a diverse team including science writers, an illustrator, an animator, a web curator and a software engineer, with the common goal of producing a high quality online resource targeting students, scientists and engineers who are interested in mechanobiology. This will involve working with artists to render high quality drawings and animations of complex scientific processes, working with software developers to create and embed ‘gadgets’ to customize database views into the web pages, using Google sites to promote MBInfos online presence, sourcing images from MBI to showcase on the site and maintaining MBInfos social media (Facebook, YouTube). Additional responsibilities include writing and editing content for MBI in the form of online and print media.
